An exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Finance/CFO to join a leading membership based organization in Sydney. This role is central for the organization's mission, ensuring the financial strength and transparency required to effectively represent their members across the country.

Key Responsibilities:

The Head of Finance oversees the financial health of the organisation at both a national and state level. Primary duties include:

  • Financial Strategy & Oversight: Managing the organisation’s investment portfolio, cash-flow management, and fixed asset maintenance.
  • Budgeting & Reporting: Directing budget preparation, monitoring expenditure, and reconciling income from membership dues and other sources.
  • Compliance & Governance: Preparing monthly, quarterly, and yearly statutory reports in line with legislation (including ROC reporting); ensuring robust corporate governance and internal controls.
  • Audit Management: Leading state-level financial and membership audits and serving as the primary liaison for external auditors and stakeholders.
  • Leadership & Development: Coaching and providing technical guidance to finance team members across National and State departments.
  • Process Innovation: Designing new management reports and implementing process improvements to enhance financial transparency.

About You:

To be successful in this complex and rewarding role, you will bring:

  • Professional Expertise: Extensive experience in high-level financial management and complex budgeting, preferably within a union, NFP, or large membership-based environment.
  • Technical Qualifications: A degree in Finance or Accounting (CPA/CA status is highly regarded).
  • Compliance Focus: Deep knowledge of statutory reporting requirements, internal audit processes, and corporate governance frameworks.
  • Strategic Mindset: The ability to advise Senior Management on investments and financial risks while remaining "hands-on" with day-to-day banking and reporting.
  • Leadership Skills: A proven track record of mentoring staff and managing multi-disciplinary finance teams across different regions.
